MENTOR COORDINATOR

A mentor coordinator serves as a liaison and provides leadership for the mentor/ advocates who provide one-on-one coaching, support, and advocacy for individuals preparing for prison release and during re-entry. The goal of the position is to coordinate activities in order to assure smooth and successful re-entry for the individual and community.

    Objectives:

 

·        Recruit, orientation, coach, and monitor mentor and advocates.

·        Place mentor and advocates in assignments.

·        Provide ongoing coaching and training.

·        Monitor performance of mentor.

·        Maintain and secure all updated paper records for all mentor clients

·        Provide selected client information to data entry person each month

·       Telephone contacts with client  (weekly or as needed)   

·        Telephone contacts with mentors (weekly or as needed)

·        Report client activities that need attention to the team

·        Assist and direct client to agencies where they can get help or solutions

·        Research community agencies or churches that can be helpful to the client

·        Maintain the best possible list of community resources and update teams monthly.

·        Hold team meetings as appropriate.

·        Conduct annual performance review.

·        Identify program enhancements and improvements.

·        Participate in routine training sessions.

·        Communicate with group facilitators, other mentors/ advocates, coordinators, and other PUFL staff.

·        Serves as an ambassador for the organization and promotes a positive image/ reputation of the ministry.

 

Qualifications (required, desired):

 

·                  Strong interpersonal skills.

·                  Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·                  Good listening skills.

·                  Available by phone and Internet.

·                  Valid Michigan drivers’ license and vehicle.

·                  No previous felony convictions: subject to criminal background check.

 

Time commitment: (hours/week; time of day)

 

Four to six hours per week; flexible schedule -- days, evenings, or weekends.

 

Work location: Various community locations including PUFL office and jail.
